Once upon a time, a long, long time ago there was a little country town that
wanted to hold a special event. It had to be an event that would bring
the community and tourists together for fun and frivolity.
What sort of event could be held, asked some of the residents?
We want it to link in with our history. We want it to link with our
rural culture. We want it to bring all facets of our community together;
young and not so young or even very old, short and tall, rich and not so
rich, left handed and right handed, the athletic or non athletic.
So they thought and they thought.
Finally a recommendation was made to the Business and Tourism Committee
and it was included in the towns marketing plan. The idea was for a
festival that would celebrate the fact that one of Australia’s most
famous authors, Colin Thiele, was born in the town and had written many
stories inspired by his childhood years growing up in Eudunda.
So a committee of willing volunteers was assembled, a budget allocated
and the planning work began.
Now we are into our third year and hoping to make it bigger and better than
ever.
The Eudunda Storytelling Festival will be held on the weekend of the
3rd & 4th October 2008 and is supported by SA Events. The weekend
program will consist of Campfire Yarning, Book Readings for Kids,
and storytellers from the Storytellers Guild of SA, as well as local identities giving it a go.
There will be variety performances, folk telling through music, oral
recordings, displays, and lots more.
Come and join in the storytelling fun so we can continue to tell stories
into the future and all live happily ever after….....
